What would you do if you found £20 that you didn't realise you had in your pocket?
I found £20 in a secret compartment of my purse recently and I put it in my piggy bank! Always saving for a rainy day :)
I was contacted recently by Money Supermarket to take part in the "What's in your pocket competition?" They created a feel-good experiment in which they placed hidden camera within a dry cleaners and told customers they'd left £20 in the pocket so that they could see their reactions. Take a look at the video here:
I was set the challenge to see what I could get for £20 and since I am always on the lookout for bargains I decided to try and get an outfit for under £20. My friends are often shocked at the bargains I do find and have forced me to help them before, not that I minded going shopping ;)
Of course I managed to spend the full £20 and I am extremely happy with the outfit that I was able to get! :) I did look in a lot of shops but ended up only buying from 2 as the deals were just so good there.
The first item I spotted was the burgundy blazer in the New Look sale, I fell in love with the colour instantly. It's quite a sophisticated colour so I feel this could be dressed up or down, a perfect cover up for colder days. I think it is a great trans-seasonal piece and when I saw that it was in my size and only £7, how could I resist?
The next item I found was the Topshop playsuit. My sister was helping me shop and when we saw this in the sale she persuaded me to try it on, it always helps to have a second opinion! It's actually 2-3 sizes too big for me but I don't think it shows that much because of the loose style and the elasticated waist still sits on my hips. The colours within the floral really compliment the burgundy of the blazer. This was only £7 and with my student discount it came to a mere £6.30, who can complain?!
Now I was on the hunt for smaller items that I could put with my playsuit and blazer, I've always liked the look of sheer black tights so when I spotted these in the Topshop sale I knew I that they would be going in my basket.
The jewellery was a much harder quest! I think I spent about an hour in the accessories section of New Look that it was probably beginning to look a bit suspicious. It paid off though, and shows that you shouldn't give up when searching for bargains. I found the earrings first and I loved the the aztec design, I think dangly earrings bring luxury to a look. I was lucky enough to find a geometric ring for only £1 and I thought that it complimented the geometric style of the aztec design in the earrings. I found this beautiful delicate wishbone necklace and scooped it up immediately, my friend has a similar one by Marc Jacobs!
With 71p left to spend I was determined to make the most of my £20 and in the spirit of feeling good I thought I would treat myself to something yummy! I went for doritos and maoam bars which brought me up to my £20 total :)
New Look Blazer = £7
Topshop Playsuit = £6.30
Topshop Tights = £1
New Look Ring = £1
New Look Necklace = £1
New Look Earrings = £2.99
My sweet treats I got with my change :)
Doritos = 51p
Maoams = 2 x 10p
TOTAL = £20.00
I think I have managed to create a versatile look here that can be dressed up or down. So I thought that I would also show how I would style them.
For a dressed down look I would complete this outfit with flat ankle boots that don't take away attention from the playsuit. I would use my favourite day time bag from Zara and style this outfit with a cute wooly hat and throw on a scarf to keep me warm!
To dress up for a meal or a night out I would wear my favourite chunky heeled ankle boots and nude clutch that compliments the outfit and doesn't distract from it!
What do you think of my finds? Are you good at bargain hunting? How would you style this outfit?
